The story turns into a nightmare..........

The day of the wedding was gloriously sunny and bright. I hope this weather is a good omen for the life we will share, she (Glenda) thought uncertainly. The closer it got to the time when Gwen was supposed to pick her up and take her to the church to get dressed, the sicker she felt. She hadn't seen BC very much the past few days. She didn't want to think about where he might have been.

The drive to Palos Verdes was very quiet. Gwen had noticed that her friend did not look well and was concerned. Finally she said, "What's going on, Glenda. This is supposed to be the happiest day in a young girl's life and you look like you're going to a funeral.

"I'm not sure. I'm not feeling very well."

"Is it morning, sickness" Gwen stared straight ahead, wondering again at the social forces that could drive a promising young woman into a disastrous marriage for the sake of presumed propriety.

"No. I'm not pregnant. I miscarried after the auto accident last week. My period came in a deluge while I was at the hospital."

"Then you don't have to go through with this." Gwen said. Glenda began sobbing. "You can't marry this man. It's all wrong.
