While she was working for the advertising company the trading company offered her a job she couldn't refuse, Advertising, Marketing and PR Director with the emphasis on opening US markets. Gwen developed advertising material, then became a spokesperson for the company. She traveled around the US to trade shows for analytical chemists and the oil research industry, exhibiting the trade company's products.

She also spent a great deal of time working in the Soviet Union at trade shows. She was the first American business woman to work in the Soviet Union and was quite a novelty for the Russians. They were charmed by her.

She attracted the attention of several Russian journalists who were intrigued by the combination of her sensational beauty and her highly technical occupation and background. One trip she brought several talking toys and a Ballerina Barbie. The Russians went wild for Barbie, they had never seen anything like her before. Gwen and Barbie were a hit.
